I think of all of Grandma's brothers, Snuff was definetly the most ornery. Counting ribs and cracking knuckles.. He used to make my eye's water when he would pinch my cheeks. Uncle Carl was fun when he would come in the back door on Sunday Mornings and crow like a rooster, but Snuff................I can still hear his laugh. The upper left corner of his lip would turn up and his eyes sparkled.

Yeah, it took me a long time to realize that Snuff was squeezing my hand because he loved me. His handshakes were pure torture! One time he was coming down the line of cousins "shaking" hands (more like BREAKING hands) and after he squeezed Gwen's she came running down to me at the end of the line moaning and groaning, only to have him grab her the SECOND time (since she was now in the line again). It was pretty funny.
ReplyDeleteI will never forget Uncle Carl's rooster crow! Did it ever sound real.

He and Uncle Carl were such neat Uncles. They came to our house a lot. I guess it was because there were 9 of us. They were both barbers and their shop was closed on Mondays so we knew they would come see us on Monday nights. Uncle Carl would always bring the Sunday paper as it always had colored funny's in it.
